The 2nd India

Fiji is a state of 333 islands in the south Pacific ocean. 

about 40% of the total population of this country is about 9 lakh Indians, which is why this country is called The 2nd India. Of the 333 islands, only 110 are inhabited. Viti levu,Fiji's principal island, Founded in 1849, Suva became the capital in 1882 and was made a city in 1952. It is now one of the largest urban centers in the south Pacific islands. The island was occupied and colonized by the British in 1874 AD. Thousands of Indian workers were sent to the island to cultivate. The condition is that after five years they can return to India if they want. But most of the workers here remain after five years and they focus on their work. Between 1920 and 1930 many more Indians voluntarily settled in Fiji. 77% of Indians living here is Hindus,and 16% of Indians are Muslim. There are many Hindu temples here. The Sri Siva Subramaniya temple is a largest Hindu temples in Nadi.Fiji diwali and holi are celebrated here with the same pomp as in India.  The official languages of this country are English, Fijian, Fiji Hindi. Most of the foreign exchange here comes from the tourism sector. The Fijian dollar is worth 34 Indian rupees. Education is inevitable for everyone here about 93% of people are educated. Here the marriage take place according to the Tabua tradition. To be allowed to marry ,the bride's father has to world's largest animal the whale, with its teeth.A very popular drink in Fiji is yaqona,also known as "kava".The British introduced Rugby with its national sport here. The rugby team is a world famous team. In this country touching someone's head is considered very insulting. Some of the most famous tourist destinations in Fiji are Mamanuca island, vitilevu island, yasawa island, yaswalow cave,kadavu island, vanua levu.
