Taj Mahal

History of the Taj Mahal.

The Mughal Emperor Saha jahan built the Taj Mahal in memory of his wife Mumtaz. Mumtaz was Saha jahan's most beloved Bagum. Mamtaz real name is Arjumand Banu Bagum.

Mamtaz died while giving birth to her 14th child. Mamtaz breathed her last in burhanpur. After Mamtaz death Saha jahan mourned his loss and build the Taj Mahal in 1631-1653 AD.

Mast of the tourists who come to see the present Taj Mahal do not see as much as Saha jahan wanted to show them. The main gate of the Taj Mahal now is not the main gate of the Taj Mahal but the Taj Mahal is towards the river. During the mughal period one had to enter the Taj Mahal by river and this was one of its main gate.

Some rumors about the Taj Mahal.

Many say that Saha jahan cut off the fingers of the workers by building the Taj Mahal. The reason give is that saha jahan did not want another Taj Mahal built like this. But their is no provide of this word so this word is considered wrong. In this context,various historians have said that Saha jahan paid all the workers a life time salary and signed a contract with them that they would never built another Taj Mahal like this

Just as Saha jajan build the Taj Mahal for Mumtaz, he wonted to built a black Taj Mahal for himself on the ather side of the jamuna. Bat no evidence of this was fond

The four pillars of the Taj Mahal are not straight

The four pillars of the Taj Mahal are not straight, they are tilted outward. The reason for doing this is that if these pillars ever collapse due to an earth quake, they will fall out wardsw without falling on the original architecture.

The Taj Mahal is even taller than the Qutub minar.

Qutub minar is the tallest minar in India. But the Taj Mahal height is higher than that of Qutub minar. The height of the Taj Mahal is 73m, and the hight of Qutub minar is 71.5m.

The calligraphy of the Taj Mahal.

The Taj Mahal has some of the most beautiful calligraphy in the world. The craftsmen who did the calligraphy at the Taj Mahal was Abdul Haq. Emperor Saha jahan sow his extraordinary warm and gave him the title of Amaanat khan.

Written in calligraphy is o soul, thou art at rest Return to the lord at peace with you. This word is taken from the Thuluth lipe.

The stone used in Taj Mahal.

A total of 28 types of precious stones were used to built the Taj Mahal. Some of the stones are Marble, jade, crystal, Lapis lazuli,Turquoise, Jasper, Sapphire, Carnelian.

The names of the places form which the stones were brought.

Marble    -  Rajasthan (Makrana)

Jade         -  China

Crystal   -  China

Lapis lazuli - Afghanistan

Turquois- Tibet

Jaspar     - panjab

Sapphire-  Sri Lanka

Carnelian- Arab 

And it took more than a thousand elephant to bring all this to Agra from out side.

Of all the workers that had built the Taj Mahal.

The Taj Mahal has been built by more than 22,000 workers for 22 years. Craftsmen were brought from Uzbekistan (Bukhara) carve marble for the Taj Mahal, stone calligraphers were brought from Iran,and artisans were brought from Baluchistan to carve stones.

It is not possible to say exactly who designed the Taj Mahal, but many believe that a group of 37 people designed the Taj Mahal. The colourful stone designs an the walls are copied stale.
